There’s something uniquely difficult about seasons where nothing seems to be changing. That’s when trusting God can be a challenge. Not because life has stopped, but because everything feels suspended between what we hoped would happen and what’s actually unfolding. We pray, we believe, we wait—but the answer doesn’t seem to come, and the silence can begin to feel louder than the prayers themselves.
It’s in these seasons that faith is tested in a different way. Not in moments of crisis, but in moments of stillness. Trusting in the Lord when everything is falling apart, but when nothing appears to be happening at all. And yet, these pauses in life often carry more spiritual weight than we realize.
Have you ever found yourself wondering if God has forgotten your request simply because the answer hasn’t yet arrived?
If so, you are not alone.
Scripture’s filled with people who lived in the tension of waiting. Not because God was absent, but because His timing was working toward something they couldn’t see yet. Abraham waited for a promise that seemed impossible. Joseph waited through years of betrayal and imprisonment before anything made sense. Israel waited in silence between prophetic words and fulfillment. In every case, the waiting wasn’t wasted—it was part of the preparation.
We often assume that silence means inactivity. But in the kingdom of God, silence rarely means absence. More often, it means that something deeper is being formed beneath the surface of what we can currently see.
Have you ever noticed how easily we interpret delay as denial?
When prayers aren’t answered quickly, we begin to question whether they were heard at all. When doors remain closed, we begin to assume they will never open. When nothing seems to shift, we quietly conclude that nothing is happening. But God isn’t bound by the urgency of our timelines.
He is never late, nor is He ever early.
There’s a reason Scripture repeatedly calls us to patience—not as passive waiting, but as actively trusting. “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles…” (Isaiah 40:31, KJV). Notice that waiting in God’s presence is not described as weakness. It is described as renewal.
That is because waiting with God is not empty time.
It is forming time.
It’s the place where trust deepens in ways that easy answers could never produce. It’s where our dependence shifts from outcomes to God Himself. And slowly, almost imperceptibly, something within us begins to change. We stop needing immediate answers to feel secure and we begin to rest in the One who holds the answers.
That shift is not always comfortable. There’re moments in the waiting where silence feels heavy. Moments where we wonder if we misunderstood God’s voice. Moments where others seem to move forward while we remain in what feels like the same place. And in those moments, the temptation to give up hope and stop trusting Him can become very real. Yet even here, God is still present.
He has not stepped away from your story simply because the pace has slowed. He hasn’t abandoned the process because it feels quiet. And He hasn’t forgotten the prayers you prayed in faith, even if it feels like they’re unanswered.
One of the hardest truths to accept is that God’s delay is not the same as His absence. What feels like waiting, to us, is often preparation in His hands. He is aligning things we cannot see, preparing outcomes we would not expect, and shaping both circumstances and hearts in ways that require time.
Have you ever considered that what you’re waiting for may also require what God is still working on within you? Sometimes the answer is delayed not because God is unwilling, but because He’s still forming what’s needed for the next season. And while that truth can be difficult, it’s also deeply comforting. It means your waiting is not random. It isn’t meaningless and it is not forgotten. It is held within the careful hands of a God who sees the full picture while you’re still learning to trust the next step.
So what do we do in the waiting?
We do not abandon faith.
We do not turn away from prayer.
We do not conclude that silence means surrender.
Instead, we continue to trust, even when trust feels quiet. We continue to pray, even when words feel repeated. We continue to believe that God is working, even when we can’t see evidence of it yet.
Because faith isn’t only proven in answers.
It’s proven in waiting.
